Embracing Balance: The Significance of the Autumnal Equinox

Updated: Oct 10

As summer fades and autumn unfolds, the Autumnal Equinox invites us to reflect on balance and change. In September 2025, this celestial event will take place on the 22nd, drawing our attention to the equal lengths of day and night. This blog post explores the importance of the Autumnal Equinox, its astrological meaning, and the rich traditions associated with this special time.

The Autumnal Equinox is a transition point in the year. This time, it will occur under the sign of Libra, which champions balance, harmony, and relationships. The waxing moon will accompany the equinox, signifying growth and new beginnings.

The equinox is more than a scientific event; it has deep roots in history and mythology. Ancient cultures recognized its significance and celebrated it with meaningful rituals. The Babylonians were pioneers in observing seasonal changes and their impact on farming, creating a foundation for many cultures that followed.

The Lore of the Autumnal Equinox

Across time and cultures, the Autumnal Equinox has been recognized as a special moment. In many Native American traditions, this period is linked to harvest celebrations. For example, the Cherokee people celebrate the "Green Corn Ceremony," which honors the first corn harvest. This festival fosters gratitude and community spirit, involving feasting and dancing under the stars.

Shamanic traditions view the equinox as a time for introspection and harmony. Shamans perform rituals that connect them to nature and the changing seasons, seeking guidance from the spirit world. This time encourages us to align with natural rhythms, deepening our connection to the earth and its cycles.

Rituals and Practices for the Autumnal Equinox

To harness the energy of the Autumnal Equinox, consider adopting practices that encourage balance and harmony. Here are two key suggestions:

Breath Work

Breathing techniques can center and ground you during this transitional period. To practice, follow these steps:

  1. Find a Quiet Space: Sit comfortably.

  2. Deep Breathing: Inhale slowly through your nose, filling your lungs completely. Hold it for a moment, then exhale slowly through your mouth.

  3. Repeat: Continue this for several minutes, focusing on your breath and releasing any tension.

Regular breath work can help you connect with your inner self and establish a sense of balance as autumn arrives.

Body Movement

Engaging in body movement can deepen your connection to the equinox. Activities such as yoga or tai chi focus on balance and flow. A simple yoga sequence that reflects the equinox might include:

  • Tree Pose (Vrksasana): This pose helps foster stability and balance, rooting you to the earth.

  • Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II): This strong pose empowers focus and strength, allowing you to embrace your inner warrior.

Crystals and Herbs

Using crystals and herbs can enhance your autumnal equinox rituals. Here are some effective choices:

  • Crystals:

- Citrine: This stone is known for attracting abundance. It can help you set positive intentions as the season changes.

- Amethyst: An excellent choice for meditation, amethyst promotes balance and tranquility.

  • Herbs:

- Sage: Commonly used for cleansing, sage creates a sacred space for your practices.

- Chamomile: Known for its calming effects, chamomile can be brewed into tea to help promote relaxation.

  • Cleanses:

- Declutter: Use this time of year to put away summer items, donate old and bring out fall and winter items. Get rid of that which no longer serves your greatest and highest good.

  - Detox Bath: Time to detox your skin and body. Dilute 2 cups epsom salts, 1 tbsp of bentonite clay, and 33 frops of lavendar essential oil in your bath water. Soak for an hour and visualize the toxins leaving your body through your skin and when you drain the tub, visualize them going down the drain.

- Parasite Cleanse: As the seasons change, it is a good idea to do a parasite cleanse. Wormwood is a great herb that kills parasites and reduces inflammation. You can buy the pure essential oil and make your own rollerball or vial. Or you can buy the herb in capsules, they have a combination of Black Walnut, Clove, Male Fern Root, Quassia and Wormwood that help with parasite elimination.

Celestial Events in September 2025

As the autumnal equinox arrives, look forward to celestial happenings that light up the night sky. Notably, a new moon will occur on September 21, 2025, in Libra, just one day before the equinox. This powerful pairing creates a unique chance for setting intentions.

Take advantage of the new moon's energy by writing down your intentions for the season. Visualization techniques can help manifest these desires into reality. People who write down their goals are more likely to achieve them, so this practice can greatly enhance your manifestation efforts.

The Autumnal Equinox this September 22nd 2025, presents a valuable chance to welcome balance and peace into our lives. By connecting with its rich lore, engaging in meaningful rituals, and tapping into the celestial energies, we can align ourselves with the natural rhythms of the earth.
